111 CASTLEREAGH HYDE PARK —— SYDNEY ‘Rising above heritage and Hyde Park, 111 Castlereagh will stand out on the Sydney skyline, yet feel as if it has always been part of the city fabric. At Cbus Property, we are always looking for iconic opportunities. In collaboration with fjmtstudio, we are proudly delivering something truly exceptional: a boutique collection of 101 exclusive residences above the former David Jones building, integrated with a beloved part of Sydney’s history. 111 Castlereagh will leave an everlasting impression on the centre of the city – and most importantly, on the people who will live here.
111 Castlereagh sits atop the former David Jones building: one of the world’s first department stores and Australia’s first house of luxury. Addressing the street corner with a distinctive curve, this heritage ‑ listed building is a renowned example of Interwar Functionalist design in the city centre. Clad in a prestigious Hawkesbury sandstone to accentuate the store’s stature and significance, the use of aluminium for the window frames and street awning was architecturally innovative for its time. Inside, a sweeping layout set a new standard for retail in the Sydney CBD. These important architectural features will be preserved and enhanced – including Art Deco details at the lift entrance – ensuring their proud legacy will be admired long into the future
